What Is Medicare And Why You Need It

Medical Insurance provides great solace to all those who fall sick and are not able to pay for the extremely high medical bills. What is Medicare?

Medicare is a  government sponsored scheme that caters to health insurance needs of all those who are 65+ or all those below 65 who are receiving insurance benefits through social schemes for a certain duration of time, or for those who are below 65 and are suffering from Renal problems which is at the end stage.

This program is sponsored by a federal government run service provider.  The amount that you pay towards security and taxes pertaining to health from your income is used to fund this scheme along with the premium that you pay towards your insurance.  Government funding is also supporting this program.

When you become eligible for his scheme, you can choose to get your benefit from one of the federal government supported program.  This is a charged facility.  Another plan which is offered by the private sector that has an understanding with the federal government is also available to you to choose from

The initial plan has two parts and the first part offers hospital coverage as an inpatient and the other part offers medical coverage as an outpatient. To receive the prescriptions under this scheme during the period of cover, you may have to enroll for a different plan altogether.

The most important thing that you have to remember when you contemplate a Medicare plan is to study deeply all the available plans. Choose how and from whom you wish to receive your benefits. This is very important as it will affect the extra costs that you will be liable to pay. So study the plans carefully before you enroll.

Every person who has enrolled in this program receives a tri-colored blue, red and white card.  This has to be produced at the time of enjoying the facility or service offered by that particular plan. If you have opted for the plan offered by the private insurers, you will still get this card but only need to present your private insurer card to avail the services.

With the Original Medicare Plan, you are covered to go to any doctors or hospitals in the country.

This is restricted in the private insurer plans. However, this plan covers support for dental care and vision, which is not covered under the federal sponsored plan.
